Best Payment Method For Lawn Care Business?

My cousin just started a lawn care business but doesnt no the best way for a client to pay him. He doesnt want to collect the money up front because most people wont be home when he cuts their grass. He thought about a credit card reader but that would be to expensive to pay everytime someone swipes their card. Any ideas?
